SNIPPETS
OSAKA, Japan, July 23 (UPI) -- A realistic "female" humanoid robot developed by a Japanese national institute made its public debut modeling wedding gowns on an Osaka catwalk. I preferred it when the Japanese were making the Walkman.
THURSDAY, JULY 23, 2009 From The New York Times: John S. Barry, an executive who masterminded the spread of WD-40, the petroleum-based lubricant and protectant created for the space program, into millions of American households, died on July 3 in the La Jolla neighborhood of San Diego. He was 84. As they say, he just slipped away. (Oh, no, no, I didn't write that, did I?)
STOCKHOLM, Sweden, July 22 (UPI) -- A group promoting the Swedish language has reported the country's capital, Stockholm, to the Swedish Parliamentary Ombudsman for using too much English. The Language Defense Network reported the city under the language law that came into effect July 1, which states that Swedish is the country's official language and public bodies have a responsibility to use and develop the language, The Local reported Wednesday. Ah yes - multicultural, tolerant Sweden. Well, at least someone in Sweden is defending something. That's a headline.
